FAQs

Version: March 2021

1)    Where are applications submitted?
Applications can only be submitted to the non-profit agency DIEHL+RITTER gUG, the operator of the TANZPAKT Stadt-Land-Bund promotion fund.

2)    Who can apply?
Applicants must be resident and/or have their production location in Germany. Depending on the thematic focus, independent ensembles, collectives and artistic teams; individual artists; municipal and state theatres; alliances of different actors from the dance scene and public sponsors; production centres; choreographic centres; venues; theatres; production-oriented festivals; production platforms as well as initiatives to develop new infrastructure and production structures for dance are eligible to apply.

3)    Who is the applicant for co-operation and network projects with equal partners?
Even in the case of co-operation and network projects with equal partners, there is only one applicant who, in the event of funding, is also the contractual partner of DIEHL+RITTER gUG. The fund sets no requirements regarding how an applicant is chosen.

4)    Is there a deadline for applications?
The deadline for submitting applications is August 20, 2021.

5)    Is it sensible to seek application advice?
It is strongly recommended that application advice be sought before submitting applications. The employees of DIEHL+RITTER gUG, the operator of the TANZPAKT Stadt-Land-Bund promotion fund, are happy to answer all questions concerning the content-related and budgetary aspects of the application.

Due to the pandemic, we are currently working mainly from home and can only be reached irregularly by telephone. The best way to submit enquiries is via e-mail.

6)    When and how will applicants be informed of the jury’s decision?
Applicants will be informed of the jury’s decisions in writing as soon as the jury sessions have ended.

7)    What is the earliest possible date a project can begin? When does it end?
Funding is ruled out if a project has already started before the jury session, or if expenses have already been incurred or contracts concluded. Projects can start in November 2021 at the earliest. The end date is in principle March 2025 at the latest.

8)    Is there a minimum project duration?
The duration of a submitted project should be at least 36 months.

9)    Which subsidies are mutually exclusive?
Funding via DIEHL+RITTER gUG as part of TANZPAKT Stadt-Land-Bund is generally ruled out if, for the project that is the subject of the application, the applicant is already receiving financial support from the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media (BKM) or from an institution funded by the BKM on a permanent basis. This concerns the following funding institutions among others: the Kulturstiftung des Bundes (German Federal Cultural Fund), the Hauptstadtkulturfonds (Capital Cultural Fund), the Fonds Darstellende Künste e.V. (Performing Arts Fund), the Fonds Soziokultur (Sociocultural Fund), the Deutscher Literaturfonds (German Literature Fund), the Deutscher Übersetzerfonds (German Translator Fund) and the Stiftung Kunstfonds zur Förderung der zeitgenössischen bildenden Kunst (Foundation Art Fund for the Promotion of Contemporary Fine Art).

10)     How high does the co-financing amount from municipalities, federal states and, where applicable, additional sponsors have to be?
Funding via DIEHL+RITTER gUG as part of TANZPAKT Stadt-Land-Bund presupposes co-financing from municipalities and/or federal states and/or additional sponsors. The co-financing amount must in principle be at least as high as the funding amount applied for. Exceptions are possible in special, duly justified cases. Co-financing should in general constitute additional funding. Own funds as well as unsecured third party funding, such as box-office receipts, cannot be used to calculate the co-financing level. Please submit the co-financing confirmation with the application form.

11)    Can funds from abroad be counted as co-financing?
Co-financing through foreign funds is in general not ruled out.

12)    Is there a minimum or a maximum application amount?
The volume of the funding amount applied for must, as a rule, be at least EUR 90,000 and must not exceed a maximum amount of EUR 600,000.

13)    Who needs to sign the co-financing form?
All co-financing institutions have to complete the co-financing form as a constitutive element of the application, and have it signed by an authorised representative in each case.

14)    Can contributions in kind be included in the finance plan?
Contributions in kind and benefits supported by an institution’s current budget (e.g. the provision of event spaces, technology, accommodation, permanent staff, etc.) or voluntary/free activities, i.e. services where there is no flow of funds, cannot be included in either the income or expenditure sheet of the finance plan. This is by no means a disregard of voluntary engagement or contributions in kind of monetary value. To disclose these non-cash benefits, please use the relevant sheet in the sample finance plan.

15)  Can costs for staff and/or investment measures be included in the application?
Staff costs can be included in the finance plan if they relate to newly created positions for the project that is the subject of the application. Please observe the regulations relating to permanent staff (see the guidelines on compiling the finance plan). Costs for investment measures are in principle eligible for funding if these are essential to realise the project.

16)    Does a separate project account need to be opened?
It is necessary to open a separate project account, but not until a project has been selected for funding and a funding agreement has been concluded.

17)    When is project funding ruled out on formal grounds?
The following points lead to a rejection on formal grounds:
- The application deadline has been missed,
- The project has already begun before the jury session,
- The project is being financed by other BKM funds.

18)  Is there a legal right to funding?
There is no legal right to funding via DIEHL+RITTER gUG as part of TANZPAKT Stadt-Land-Bund.
